A 53-year-old French interior designer, identified only as Anne, became the victim of an elaborate scam that cost her nearly $850,000 and shattered her personal life. The perpetrators used AI-generated images and messages to pose as Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, convincing Anne of a romantic relationship that led her to divorce her husband and transfer her life savings to the scammers.

The Start of the Deception  

The scam began innocently, with Anne receiving a message on Instagram from someone claiming to be Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt. The sender told her she was the “perfect match” for Brad. Days later, she was contacted by an account impersonating Pitt, initiating a whirlwind of romantic exchanges.  

Initially skeptical, Anne admitted she was unfamiliar with social media and gradually became drawn into the well-crafted deceit. Over the next 18 months, the scammer sent her poems, love declarations, and promises of a future together, all designed to build trust and deepen the emotional connection.  

A Carefully Orchestrated Fraud  

The scam escalated when the fake Pitt claimed he was hospitalized with kidney cancer. He told Anne his financial assets were frozen due to legal issues with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, making him unable to afford treatment. To lend credibility to the story, the scammer sent AI-generated images of Pitt in a hospital bed and fabricated messages from a “doctor” vouching for his dire condition.  

In response, Anne transferred her savings—amounting to nearly $850,000—to a Turkish bank account. The initial requests were small, starting with a $10,000 customs fee for supposed gifts, but soon ballooned into larger sums under the pretense of urgent medical needs.  

A Turning Point  

Anne’s daughter grew suspicious and warned her mother that she was likely being scammed. However, Anne dismissed the concerns, confident in the promises of her supposed relationship with Pitt. It wasn’t until she saw media reports of the real Brad Pitt’s public outings with his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, in mid-2024, that Anne realized she had been deceived.  

“I loved the man I was talking to. He knew how to speak to a woman,” Anne said in an emotional interview, reflecting on the betrayal.
