Apple Inc. (AAPL) is set for a “golden era of growth,” according to Wedbush Securities analyst Daniel Ives, who raised his 12-month price target for the tech giant to $325, the highest on Wall Street. Ives maintained his outperform rating, citing Apple’s artificial intelligence (AI) strategy as the foundation for significant growth through 2025.
Apple shares hit a record intraday high of $260.09 on Thursday, closing at $258.63. Year-to-date, Apple’s stock has surged over 34%, nearing a $4 trillion market valuation. Ives projects continued momentum, driven by an AI-powered iPhone upgrade cycle that could fuel a surge in revenue and device adoption.
AI-Driven Growth Potential
Apple’s AI push began with the iPhone 16, released in September, and its Apple Intelligence features rolled out in October and December updates. Ives believes these enhancements will accelerate upgrades over the next 12 to 18 months, as consumers seek AI-integrated devices.
With approximately 300 million iPhones primed for upgrades, Ives predicts Apple could achieve record sales of 240 million iPhones in 2025. He highlighted Apple’s vast ecosystem of over 2 billion active devices as a competitive edge, positioning the company as a leader in consumer AI adoption.
“Apple Intelligence will reshape the consumer growth narrative, opening new revenue streams and reinforcing Apple’s dominance,” Ives noted. He emphasized that AI-driven services, combined with a strong installed base, would sustain growth.
Market Optimism and Risks
Apple’s resurgence comes after facing challenges earlier this year, including sluggish iPhone sales, regulatory scrutiny, and competition in China. However, recent product launches, improved iPhone shipments, and AI features have revitalized investor confidence.
Despite optimism, some analysts remain cautious. BTIG’s Jonathan Krinsky warned that Apple’s recent rally, including five consecutive weekly gains, could lead to near-term pullbacks. He advised investors to remain wary heading into January, given Apple’s high valuation and potential macroeconomic headwinds.
Apple’s projected growth also faces uncertainties related to tariffs on Chinese imports, which could add costs to production. Furthermore, persistent inflation and the Federal Reserve’s slower-than-expected interest rate cuts may dampen consumer spending.
AI Strategy and Competitive Edge
Apple’s AI rollout is still in its early stages, with features such as ChatGPT integration and machine learning enhancements across iOS, macOS, and iPads. Analysts view this as a stepping stone to broader applications, particularly in AI-driven services that could boost recurring revenue.
Ives highlighted Apple’s unmatched ability to monetize AI, thanks to its extensive hardware-software ecosystem. “Apple Intelligence will likely touch 20% of the world’s population in the coming years, making it a game-changer,” he stated.
Apple’s ability to integrate AI seamlessly into existing products, rather than relying solely on standalone innovations, sets it apart from competitors. This strategy not only drives hardware upgrades but also strengthens Apple’s services revenue, valued at $2 trillion.
Mixed Analyst Views
While Ives’ bullish outlook positions Apple as the first company to surpass a $4 trillion valuation, others advise caution. Apple’s Zacks Rank of 3 (Hold) reflects stable earnings projections, but analysts remain divided on short-term growth potential.
Currently, 34 of 53 analysts recommend buying Apple stock, while 16 are neutral and three are bearish. The average price target sits at $247.58, below Ives’ aggressive forecast of $325.
Outlook for 2025
Apple’s AI-enhanced iPhones are expected to drive sales growth, supported by strong holiday demand and expanding service offerings. Finance Chief Luca Maestri projected revenue growth in the low-to-mid single digits for the next quarter, aligning with analyst expectations.
Ives sees Apple’s AI-driven upgrade cycle marking the company’s highest sales year, especially in China, where 100 million devices are ready for upgrades. With AI adoption poised to transform user experiences, Apple’s position as a tech leader appears stronger than ever.
As Apple heads into 2025, investors remain focused on AI developments, consumer adoption, and macroeconomic factors. Whether the stock can sustain its upward trajectory remains to be seen, but the company’s AI strategy has undoubtedly set the stage for long-term growth.
